Despite calls for legislation to be delayed, the Scottish Government have confirmed that from February 1st 2022, all homes will need to have linked alarms in living rooms as well as spaces such as hallways and landings.
This new legislation affects owners of private homes. Private landlords were already required to comply with legislation covering the need for adequate fire safety measures.
The rules were originally due to come into effect from February 2021, but were delayed due to the CoVid-19 pandemic.
The government have confirmed that alarms can be installed within a "reasonable time period" after this deadline.
